Speed up metabolism

There are key factor you can change in your lifestyle which speed up your metabolism and ensure you lose weight.

  1. Do light and regular exercise (or more demanding exercise if you feel capable but be sure not to over exert yourself). Walking and jogging are ideal.
  2. Eat little and often. Obviously ensure that what you eat is health (fruit is ideal). Small portions and regularly is perfect for speeding up your metabolism- eating some foods, such as celery means that you actually burn more calories during the process of chewing than there are in the food itself! Around 10% of the calories you burn daily occurs through digesting food! So the more you eat (the right food, and the right portion size obviously), the more calories you can potentially burn!
  3. Cut out carbohydrates and eat more protein; however ensure high protein foods are low in fat otherwise this is a pointless task!
  4. Spices, such as chilli and Tabasco speed up your metabolism by up to 50%- obviously that doesn’t mean you can order a chicken tikka massala from your local curry house, but it does mean you should be adventurous and spice up your food whilst boosting your metabolism.
  5. Avoid coffee and tea (especially with full fat milk/ cream/ sugar), and try green tea instead. There is an abundance of herbal teas available on the market in a variety of different flavours so don’t be afraid to try them and switch to them instead of what you’re used to.
  6. According to scientific research, being cold can increase your metabolism by up to 20%, as your body using up more energy in an effort to stay warm!
  7. Go to your local gym and use the sauna- check with your GP first that there’s no underlying medical conditions stopping you, but this too can speed up your metabolism by up to 20%!
